The Culture and Education Association from Lovinac, Croatia organized an Erasmus+ youth exchange program called “Be aware, be sustainable” from 16th to 23rd April 2023. The project took place in the picturesque village of Krš, located in a rural mountain area in Croatia.

A total of 25 young participants from Croatia, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, and Latvia came together to engage in an enriching project focused on permaculture and sustainable living. The primary objective was to equip the participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to adopt a green, ecological lifestyle by implementing permacultural principles in their daily lives.

Throughout the program, the young participants experienced a combination of non-formal and informal learning methods. They actively engaged in hands-on experiences, working collaboratively in multicultural groups within a supportive environment. The core topics of exploration included sustainability, permaculture, environmental responsibility, healthy lifestyles, the importance of nutritious diets, and the significance of spending time outdoors in nature.

The participants had the opportunity to acquire practical skills such as woodcutting, fire-making, bread baking, and creating natural cleaning products. Additionally, they enthusiastically shared their respective countries’ cultures, customs, traditional food, and beverages during an intercultural evening, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of their diverse backgrounds.

Upon returning to their home communities, the young participants are expected to make a positive impact by sharing and implementing the knowledge and skills they acquired during the project. Through their actions and practices, they aim to spread the message of sustainability and contribute to the overall well-being of their respective communities.
