The Youth Exchange program “Love Earth” that occurred from March 16th to March 23rd 2023 in Rabo de Peixe, Azores, Portugal was a unique and memorable experience for everyone involved. The organizing association, Pro Active Azores, along with other partner organizations, provided a variety of activities to train participants on environmental sustainability and maritime pollution.

This project aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage participants to take action in their communities to promote sustainability. By working together participants gained a better understanding of the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. During the workshop, participants learned about sustainable living, maritime pollution, including recycling, composting, and reducing single-use plastics. They also discussed the impact of pollution on the marine environment and explored ways to minimize their impact on the ocean.

The evenings during the Youth Exchange program were a time for participants to unwind, relax, and get to know each other better. After long days of activities, workshops, and discussions, the evenings provided a much-needed break and a chance to socialize. The participants would often gather together in the common areas of their accommodations, playing games, chatting, and sharing stories about their experiences.

In addition to these impromptu gatherings, the organizers also planned several formal events, such as intercultural evenings and talent shows. During these events, participants would showcase their traditional dances, music, and cuisine, giving everyone a chance to learn more about each other’s cultures. These fun-filled evenings were a highlight of the program, and they played a significant role in bringing the participants closer together.

“Participating in this Youth Exchange program has expanded my view on the project’s topic. Not only did I learn about environmental sustainability and maritime pollution, but I also had the chance to connect with people from different countries and cultures. This experience has opened my eyes to the importance of preserving our planet and has inspired me to take action in my community. I have made friends and have gained a new perspective on the world. I will always cherish the memories and lessons from this project.” – Călina Roncea, participant

The project’s achievements were published extensively, and the organizers, participants, and partners were acknowledged for their contributions in making the project a success. Everyone who was involved expressed their appreciation and gratitude. They all anticipate the opportunity to revisit this fantastic country in the future.
